Achieving Excellence in the Community with YLTC
Yancy will be available at each school to assist its parent involvement team in selecting family learning opportunities based on the assessed parent needs of the school. The selection will consider various factors such as topics, scheduling, and local cultural environment. Yancy will promote the workshops, which will be culturally relevant to each school and follow LAUSD Parent Involvement Policy and campus guidelines. The learning opportunities will be structured with clear and appropriate learning objectives, drawing from best practices of family literacy methods and adult education. Yancy's content is categorized into four areas, with the goal of positively influencing parents' impact on their children's level of achievement.
- Academic Skill Building for Parents (family literacy, family numeracy, family computer skills, dual language education, Adult Basic Education, GED preparation, English as a Second Language, citizenship preparation)
- Effective Parenting (basic parenting skills, communication, boundaries, discipline, anger management)
- School Involvement (understanding academic expectations, contributing to their children’s school experiences, participating in parent organizations)
- Family Enrichment (fitness, cultural activities, health)
